Sheetal Cool Products Ltd. quickly emerged as a leading contender when selecting a company for this month’s newsletter spotlight. They represent more than just delicious and beloved ice cream; their story is one of impressive entrepreneurial success, a deep dedication to their community, and a progressive approach to sustainability and social responsibility.

Their significant statistical growth—demonstrated by consistent revenue increases, a projected annual turnover of INR 15 billion by 2030, and their listing on both the BSE and NSE—reflects their strategic vision and operational excellence.

Our interest piqued, we reached out to Mr. Yash Bhuva, Director-Sales and Operations. His extensive knowledge of both the Indian and global markets was immediately apparent, and we were eager to uncover the story of Sheetal Cool Products beyond the surface. When he extended an invitation to visit their manufacturing plant in Amreli, a small town in Gujarat’s Saurashtra region, we knew it was an opportunity to witness firsthand the achievements he spoke of with such pride.

Our visit to Sheetal Cool Products Ltd. was a deeply enriching experience, taking us behind the scenes of a brand that has sweetened countless moments in our lives. Beyond just a corporate tour, it felt like a personal journey, connecting us to the source of the ice creams that have been a constant presence at our local markets, festive celebrations, and family gatherings.

Meeting Mr. Keval Bhuva and Mr. Hardik Bhuva, the Directors of Marketing and Manufacturing respectively, added an invaluable personal dimension to our understanding of the company.

Mr. Keval Bhuva and Mr. Hardik Bhuva warmly shared the story of Sheetal Cool Products Ltd., a narrative founded on the vision, unwavering dedication, and relentless hard work of the late Shri Jagdishbhai D. Bhuva and his brothers. Starting in 1987 as a humble paan and cold drinks kiosk in Amreli, Gujarat, Sheetal has grown into a diversified FMCG company with the ambitious goal of becoming one of India’s leading food companies by 2030.

Their forefathers were farmers in a village some 45 km from Amreli, so hard work was a given. The family shifted to Amreli for education. Evolving from Pan shop to Fruit Juice Corner to FruitCream to other Milk products. “It all began with a simple desire to bring happiness to our community,” Mr. Keval Bhuva explained, recalling how they discovered their passion for ice cream during the Janmashtami festival in 1991. By 1996, they had established their own production unit, perfecting the art of crafting handmade ice cream. He spoke fondly of “Jamil”, their signature frozen lassi, which evokes nostalgia and connects customers to their origins, as symbolized by the “J” in their logo, a tribute to Jagdish ji Bhuva.

Sampling Sheetal’s recently launched premium ice cream brand, J’adore, was a definite highlight. The rich, creamy texture and exceptional flavors highlighted their unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. No wonder that Sheetal Icecream is thriving in almost 10 States of India and 15 Countries across the globe with a wide range of frozen foods.
Although the journey from Amreli to the World had its own challenges of Supply Chain, Cold Storage Establishments, Penetration into Rural Gujarat and Competition with established brands, Mr Keval exclaims – “We have a Hero Product, so everything else can be taken care of.” Their products are certified by various national and international bodies, including:

BRCGS (Brand Reputation through Compliance for Global Standard)
FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act)
EIC (Export Inspection Council)
ISO Certification

These certifications ensure that every product meets stringent quality criteria, earning them a strong brand presence in the ice cream segment across India and beyond.

He continues, “We pride ourselves on our self-dependence. We generate 30% of our electricity through our own solar plant and windmills. We also have a corrugated package manufacturing unit and a fueling station for our owned logistics fleet of more than 60 reefer trucks. Our in-house design team handles logo creation, packaging, and even ice cream wafers, ensuring that every aspect of our business is managed with care and precision.”

We were also impressed by Sheetal’s commitment to women empowerment. Mr. Hardik Bhuva shared that approximately 70% of their workforce consists of women, who are provided with opportunities for personal and professional growth, fostering a supportive environment.

During our in-depth tour, we got to see not only the ice cream production but also the processing unit for various milk products and sweets. The sheer scale of production was impressive, with the facility churning out 18,000 candy bars per hour and 1000s of units of various other varieties. The entire operation reflected a commitment to efficiency and quality. We observed a dedicated team for quality maintenance, responsible for conducting random sampling and ensuring that every product meets their stringent standards. To ensure only the best quality reaches consumers, flavored milk is stored in the factory for a week before dispatch.

The milk plant itself was a marvel of modern hygiene, featuring a self-cleaning setup that eliminates human intervention, ensuring a sanitized and hygienic premise. The use of the highest quality, non-corrosive steel containers in the milk plant further underscored their commitment to quality. This 24-hour running plant, operating in three shifts, highlights their dedication to meeting consumer demand while maintaining high standards.

The accessibility of Mr. Keval Bhuva and Mr. Hardik Bhuva was noteworthy. They make it a point to personally meet visitors, creating a sense of connection and genuine hospitality.

Mr. Keval Bhuva shared a quote that resonated with our team: “Our first generation is dedicated to creating employment opportunities in our hometown, ensuring that everyone who wishes to earn a respectable living can do so. Our second generation believes in reaching for the sky. We have been involved in activities like packaging ice cream boxes since childhood, instilling in us a deep understanding of our operations.”

Mr. Keval Bhuva added, “Even as a family business, it is not just about the fathers, uncles and brothers. My mother was the first-generation Leader of product innovation and quality maintainance. Later our sisters and now my wife too, Mrs. Jinal Bhuva, all the highly educated women in our family play a crucial role in decision-making, particularly in finance and R&D. Their insights and expertise have been invaluable to our growth and success.”

“At Sheetal Cool Products Ltd., quality is our top priority,” Mr. Keval Bhuva emphasized. “We procure the best milk from the nearest Junagadh and Gir Cow and buffalo milk belts. Our ice creams and sorbets are made with real fruit pulp, ensuring that every bite is a delight.”

“By the year 2030, Sheetal aims to attain an annual turnover of INR 15 billion and emerge as one of the prominent food companies in India,” Mr. Hardik Bhuva stated. “Our mission is to deliver top-notch food products crafted with the highest standards of hygiene and safety, all while maintaining an appealing price point for consumers.”

Sheetal also employs innovative marketing strategies. “For instance, on Women’s Day, we launched a special campaign in Amdavad’s Sheetal Ice Cream Parlours, celebrating the strength and success of women,” Mr. Keval Bhuva explained. “This included exclusive offers and promotions that resonated with our female customers.”

“Additionally, we focus on traditional advertising methods like shop frills and shop boards to maintain public recall,” Mr. Hardik Bhuva added. “However, we also leverage social media and other digital platforms for grand launches and brand visibility, especially as we expand into new territories across India. Our marketing mix includes strategic partnerships, such as our MOU with BPCL to set up outlets across Gujarat, further enhancing our reach and accessibility.”

Transforming Lives and building an empire :

Another remarkable aspect of Sheetal’s commitment to community is their inclusive employment practices. Even elderly individuals are provided with jobs, allowing them to earn a respectable living and contribute to the company’s success.
Adding to their accomplishments, Sheetal is listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), a testament to their growth and financial stability. Sheetal began its journey on the stock market with a listing on the BSE SME segment in 2017, later migrating to the BSE mainboard and getting listed on the NSE in 2022.
